In February, I went to Stockholm for around 24 hours and had an amazing time regardless of the snow and cold. If you're visiting Stockholm, you'll most likely fly into Arlanda Airport (ARN), the Stockholm's main international airport. Luckily, there are several easy ways to get from Arlanda Airport to Stockholm city centre, including trains, buses, and taxis.
Transport | Time | Cost | Best For |
Arlanda Express | 18 min | 340 SEK | Fastest option |
Flygbussarna | ~40 min | 129 SEK | Cheapest direct option |
FlixBus | ~40 min | 99 SEK | Budget travellers |
SL Travel Card | ~60 min | 200 SEK / Free with the Travel Card | SL Travel Card holders |
Taxi | ~40 min | ~700 SEK | Groups / direct option |
The Arlanda Express Train
The Arlanda Express is the train shuttle service that takes you into the city from the airport. It's the quickest way to get to the city and departs every 15 minutes. It only has 1 route and goes between Arlanda Airport and Stockholm Central Station.
Cost: 340 SEK one way / 640 SEK return (cheaper if there's more people)
Travel Time: 18 mins
Flygbussarna Airport Coaches
The Flygbussarna coaches run many different lines from all major Swedish airports into their respective city centres. Therefore, it's a lot easier to get a direct coach closer to your accommodation or to your first tourist stop. The coaches run every 20 minutes during busier periods, and every hour during quieter periods.
Cost: 129 SEK one way / 198 SEK return
Travel Time: 42 mins
FlixBus
FlixBus operates from Arlanda Airport to selected stops throughout the city. This is the way I personally got into the city, as one of the stops was right next to my hostel. These run every 40 minutes or so, but you can get a ticket right by the bus stop.
Cost: 99 SEK one way / 187 SEK return
Travel Time: 42 mins
Municipal Transport
If you already have a SL travel card, then this route would be the best option, as it's free! Otherwise, you can still pay for one-way travel. You can take a bus from Arlanda Airport to Märsta Station and then transfer to the Pendeltåg train to Stockholm Central Station/T-Centralen.
Cost: free with the travel card / 200 SEK one way
Travel Time: 1 hour
Taxi
Taxis are also an option from the airport if you're looking for something straight away and door to door. If there's a few of you, the price split could even work out cheaper sometimes.
Cost: ~700 SEK one way
Travel Time: 40 mins
Whichever mode of transport you decide, I hope you have a smooth journey, and an amazing stay in Stockholm!
